I just love this place. We’ve never been to Egypt so I have nothing to compare its authenticity to, but I don’t care. It’s so good.
Obviously, Alibaba is not new to blog mentions around here but I ordered something new from there today and it’s totally worth talking about. Their Egyptian sandwiches are popular & any time I see somebody eating one, I always think how good it looks. I asked for the Egyptian shrimp sandwich but they were out of shrimp so I just got the chicken instead. It was so delicious, I don’t even care they were out of shrimp. I really wish I had another one right now but I’m going to exercize self control & refrain from embarrassing myself by ordering a second one in the same meal timeframe. I’m going to convince Rob to try one because I think he’ll really like it. Unfortunately, hes at work right now. This was tonight’s dinner & it was such a good idea! Usually I get the curry but this was so delicious that I’m not even sure if I’ll ever order curry from them again because I’ll just get this from now on instead.
UPDATE: Fast forward a couple weeks…
Today is Sunday & unfortunately, Rob had to work but at least it was a short shift. He’s worked every day since last Sunday, and is working through AT LEAST next Saturday, possibly even longer than that. The only day off Rob has had in the last week was last Sunday, and we went to Tokyo so it wasn’t a day of rest for him & today after work, he wanted to relax. For dinner, I suggested Alibaba’s Egyptian sandwiches! They’re open during primetime bar hours so they open after he’s already at work for the evening so this was the perfect opportunity to get him in there. I kinda wanted to smoke some hookah but I wanted him to get his relaxation time, so maybe we’ll do it another day. Anyway, Rob was sketpical but open to the idea since I kept telling him how good this food was. Hessem, the guy I ususally order from, was working this evening & it’s always a good experience when he’s there. We ordered our Egyptian sandwiches to go & came back to the hotel room, & I was excited that Rob liked his! At first, he said, it’s “pretty good,” but I could tell he enoyed it because he mentioned it a couple more times as the night wore on. Like an hour after we ate it, he says to me, “Good call on that sandwich.”
The good news here is that they are the closest restaurant to us so they’re as convenient as it gets (google maps says they’re 100 feet from our room) & since Rob enjoyed it & I love it, we’ll visit them again! I get pretty excited about them. I am truly going to miss that place when we leave Yokosuka. That’s pretty good for a place I was initially skeptical to try.
